Happy heavenly birthday to jazz pianist Eddie Heywood, born 105 years ago in Atlanta. Eddie is best known as the composer of "Canadian Sunset," which he performed with Hugo Winterhalter & His Orchestra in 1956. The song peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 and #9 on the R&B chart. Andy Williams, whose birthday was yesterday, recorded a vocal version the same year and reached #7.
Beautiful song, indeed!

I should listen to more of his playing. Funny thing is that a music blog I follow just did a whole post on lounge music and he was one of the artists featured.

That ‘weekend in Canada, a change of scene’ must have really impressed that Georgia boy. Great song.

The lyrics were by Norman Gimbel, who did a ton of great songs (including TV and movie themes) with Charles Fox.
