Time once again for Share Your World! Melanie has everything you need (rules, prompts, pingbacks) to play along with us. And awaaaaaaaay we go!
Do you enjoy skiing or ice skating or if it’s warm where you are, hiking or enjoying outdoor sports? No. Even if I weren’t crippled, I never cared for participating in sports.
Do you give to charities or homeless that you might encounter, during this time of year, more than you do otherwise? We try to donate to charities throughout the year, but especially at this time of year. We support The St. Vincent DePaul Society at our parish; they run the Food Pantry. which we try to donate to pretty regularly. We also give money to The Salvation Army, The Atlanta Union Mission, Toys for Tots, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home. Mary does a lot of knitting, mostly hats for the homeless. We do what we can. We’re also more-than-generous tippers, especially important since so many restaurant workers have been affected by our friend the coronavirus. I figure they need the money more than I do…
What is the most enjoyable activity you engage in during December? Is it a tradition for you and your family? Mary and always see the last week of the year (from Christmas to New Year’s) as kind of a special time. One of the companies that owned my employer over the years made that a vacation week for everyone, and we’ve liked it ever since.
What changes will C-19 bring to your festive celebrations this year? None, really. We spend a lot of our lives sitting around doing nothing. We aren’t exactly social butterflies to begin with….

Thanks John for Sharing Your World! You really do have the warmest heart and most generous spirit! I think that’s amazing, especially this year when the virus has done so much damage! Good for you and Mary. What wonderful people you are! Blessings!

The thing is, it hasn’t been that bad for us because I’m retired and collecting disability, but I know that there are too many people who are out of work through no fault of their own, or they’ve had their hours cut back severely. Personally, I think the reaction to the virus (the shutdowns and quarantining) has been more destructive than the virus itself. And, before I fall off this soapbox, I’m going to bed…

After several years of working for the same company, I managed to take my vacation during the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas! Both are my favorite times of the year.

Taking that last week of the year makes it a real holiday, just like taking the rest of Thanksgiving week off does. Doesn’t it?

I would forgo income to have the last week of the year off. True story. I wonder how many thumbprint cookies it would take to bribe my boss…

Hey! There you are! Was it your birthday recently?
Thumbprint cookies… mmmmm…
I really like that last week of the year off, even if I’m retired now. We just sit back and do nothing…

Charities are good. One of our favorites is St Jude’s Hospital.
Winter activities are for the young.
One Christmas custom I miss was when the boys were little and we went to the folks for Christmas, we would hitch up the horses to sleigh wagon and go to all the neighboring farms to say Merry Christmas.

They do a lot of good things at St. Jude, and the patients and their families don’t pay a cent. It’s a blessing.
