Song of the Day: The Monkees, “Stepping Stone”

A very happy heavenly birthday to George Dolenz, father of The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz, who was born Jure Dolenc in Trieste, Austria-Hungary (now Italy) 113 years ago today. "(I’m Not Your) Stepping Stone" was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and was originally done by Paul Revere & The Raiders in May 1966. The Monkees’ version was released in November 1966 as the B side to "I’m A Believer," and reached #20 on the Hot 100, their first B side to chart.

    1. All of them were musicians to a greater or lesser extent, but the producers just wanted people who looked like they knew how to play their instruments. Davy was actually a better drummer than Micky, but he was too cute to hide behind a drum kit….
