Smooth jazz singer Phil Perry, who has performed with yesterday’s birthday boy, Lee Ritenour, celebrates his 69th birthday today. Here he appears with Rippingtons guitarist Russ Freeman and keyboardist David Benoit on their joint project, 1994’s The Benoit/Freeman Project, on a song written by Bill Champlin, Jay Graydon, and David Foster that was originally recorded by Earth Wind & Fire in 1969.
I’ve heard this before but a different version. Good song regardless

You probably heard Earth Wind & Fire do it. They were the people who did it first.

I know this song! I never know who did it or the name of the song but when I play it, recognition comes in.

Caught you in a typo. EWF had a hit with it in 1979.

Right, they were just forming in ’69. Thanks!

I haven’t heard this version before (I know the Earth, Wind & Fire version), but they haven’t ruined it, which is good!

They’re pretty close, though this doesn’t have the synthesizer…
