Just so everyone who had been finding me there knows, I dropped my Twitter account yesterday. I was at the point where every time I went out there I’d ask myself "Why did I come out here?" As I explained on Monday, it’s not a political move: it’s more of a "mental health" move, something I’ve considered for a while. I feel less burdened already. Reddit and Pinterest are next…

One-Liner Wednesday and Just Jot It January are both Linda Hill ventures.

Now here’s a word about Marlboro cigarettes. Settle back with a Marlboro!
Thankfully I never joined Twitter and I don’t even know what Reddit is. I like Pinterest because of, well, the pictures as well as Instagram. Facebook I am on but…meh to it. Actually I posted a very funny anti trump thing done to Auf Wiedersehn, Good-Bye” from The Sound of Music. I thought it was quite well done. well, my cousin’s wife, both Trump supporters, she called me ignorant and reprehensible. I told her that, before this, it was all about our thoughts on politics but she crossed the line and made it personal and I defriended her. She apologized and said it was a typo and meant to say the thing I posted was this but I know that is a crock. She showed my cousin and I think he told her a thing or 2 because, despite the political crap, we love each other and my mom loved him dearly. She had to back peddle. How sad and silly.

Reddit was pretty useful on occasion, but the occasions were a while ago. It’s hard to explain; check Wikipedia for a description (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reddit) or better, go out and try it. You might find something useful…

I’m tempted to drop twitter, too, which I only got to promote my writing. Too many fish in that sea. But I do enjoy instagram because it’s mostly just looking at pictures.

I like Instagram. There’s a lot of variety there. Pinterest there’s almost too much variety, but sometimes you find things there you don’t anywhere else. Twitter’s a waste of time. Most of them are…

I’ve started using MeWe as an alternative to Facebook. I like it so far. I also started using Parler (then Gab) as an alternative to Twitter. Parler is temporarily unavailable and Gab is slow because of the huge increase in members. I think those problems will be resolved.

I’m on all three, as well as Minds (pretty similar to MeWe, but for content creators). Parler got as big as it did because it worked the best, that is until Amazon yanked it down… All are going through some serious growing pains right now, but it was almost necessary for the new social media to be created. That’s a good thing…

I keep up with a few folks I like on Twitter, but I actively avoid the garbage. My twitter universe is minuscule compared to the average user. I try to echo tweets from people, bloggers, companies that I respect. It’s only ever a news source for technology news, since that’s the bulk of my community,

What I found was that it was good when severe weather was in the area: I’d monitor #gawx and #atlwx and sometimes #alwx because we aren’t that far from the Alabama line. Also good for baseball scores and news…

Don’t blame you. The main reason I got on twitter was to link my blog. Now I’m a seasoned doom scroller. I de-activated my facebook acct long ago, and twitter is probably next.

I discovered that Twitter wasn’t doing any good as far as drawing people to the blog. I get a little more from Facebook: that’s another mess, but my family and a lot of people I went to school and worked with are there…

Since I got kicked off Twitter in October it’s freed up a lot more time for me. I don’t think Twitter ever had much impact on promoting my blog. It was just another time suck.

How’d you manage to get kicked off Twitter? I just have a hard time imagining it…

Let’s just say I think Kamala’s people didn’t like something I tweeted about her and probably reported me to Twitter who kicked me off for hate speech. What I essentially said is that congress was not doing it’s job and they shouldn’t be paid. No profanity (except “slut” which I’ve seen repeatedly used in far worse ways regarding Melania). A lot of other people got kicked off for being against Biden/Harris.
Oh well. no huge loss and actually a gain in time.

I keep in touch with one or two people via Twitter, so I’m keeping it for now. I hear you, though. I think social media has created more consternation than people can tolerate these days.

Seemed we were so much happier and more tolerant of each other before social media.

Yeah. If my daughter wasnāt on Twitter Iād probably drop it too. I donāt think it helps promote my writing because Iām such a little fish. Reddit is just a giant waste of time. I rarely open it, or Nextdoor…

I bought into the whole “if you’re a writer, you need to be active on social media blah blah blah” thing, too.

I don’t blame you. I find myself avoiding the computer for the time/brain drains. I should drop Twitter officially. I never go there. If it wasn’t for all my long-lost cousins, I’d leave Facebook, too.

I have a page for my blog on Facebook and my whole family is there, plus with the A to Z Challenge I need to be able to sign on there, so I’ll keep that, and I like looking at the pictures on Instagram, so that stays. I pretty much only follow one community on LiveJournal, so I’ll keep that, too, because I like the community. But Reddit, Pinterest, Twitter, they’re dead to me.

Maybe I should set up FB for my blog? How does that work? And when we do A-Z do we need to sign up there now?

I have a FB page author page and a page for my art, but FB suppresses these kinds of pages to get you to buy ads, so I often just share on my personal page. The only reason I can think of to have a separate page now is if you want a separate identify. But that’s just my opinion.

Thank you for that. I share the blog most days by hitting the FB button so I guess I don’t need more than that.š

We’ll have a form set up on Google for signups like we have the last several years. I set up a page for my blog when Facebook made a rule that you couldn’t post to your timeline from outside. WordPress has a function that will post to your FB page when you post an article, but it has to be a page separate from your profile. They’re pretty easy to set up, and the directions are there and pretty clear….
