
Composer, lyricist, and playwright Leslie Bricusse turns 90 today. He wrote the music for Doctor Doolittle, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and Scrooge, as well as co-writing the lyrics with Anthony Newley for the theme song from Goldfinger and the lyrics for the theme song from You Only Live Twice. Dame Shirley Bassey sang the theme from Goldfinger and achieved her only Top Ten hit, reaching #8 on the Hot 100 and #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1964.
