Brazilian singer, dancer and actress Carmen Miranda was born 112 years ago today. She was in the movie That Night In Reno in 1941 with Alice Faye and Don Ameche, where she performed "Chica Chica Boom Chic."

  1. Love Carmen with her wild hats and outfits. She is almost forgotten today which is a shame and she did die too young. Love seeing Don Ameche singing this song while in uniform. The early to mid 40s fell in love with everything down south….way down south:)


    1. Right… Central and South America and the Caribbean were a big influence during WWII. They still have a big influence on music, particularly Brazil.

      I read where Carmen was frustrated by the image she had created. Once a lady in a fruit at, always a lady in a fruit hat, I guess…
