Song of the Day: Pee Wee King, “Slow Poke”

Julius Frank Anthony Kuczynski, better known as country singer and accordionist Pee Wee King, would be 107 today. Pee Wee wrote "Slow Poke" with Redd Stewart and Chilton Price in 1951 and recorded it in 1952. Price actually wrote the song, but she felt that putting King’s and Stewart’s name on as co-authors would help it sell better. The song reached #3 on the Billboard Best Sellers chart (the predecessor to the Hot 100) and #1 on the Country chart, and topped the Australian charts.
