Song of the Day: The Cars, “Shake It Up”

Ric Ocasek, rhythm guitarist, singer, and songwriter for the band The Cars, would be 77 years old today. "Shake It Up" is the title track from their fourth album, released in 1981. The song was written and sung by Ocasec and reached #4 on the Hot 100 in 1982.

  1. I like almost everything they do… they were productive…their 4th album in 1982…I think they might have released the best debut album ever…

    1. I know what you mean. I used to work for a family-owned company and the youngest son had a band that would rehearse in an empty room in the factory. I think the only song they knew was “Just What I Needed.”

  2. I only became aware really of the Cars in the last couple of years. Funny how you know some songs but not who the artists are and then all of a sudden they become some of your favorites. Especially for me I guess because I don’t listen to mainstream radio anymore so if it wasn’t an artist already in my iTunes, I don’t hear them.
