Yesterday was Opening Day for Major League Baseball today, with all teams starting their seasons. Today is also the birthday of legendary Chicago White Sox shortstop Luke Appling, who played for the Chicago White Sox from 1930 to 1950 and had little to show for it, but who was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. "Centerfield" is the title track from John Fogerty’s 1984 album. It reached #44 on the Hot 100 and #4 on the Top Rock Track chart. More importantly, since its release it’s been played at practically every major and minor league game. It might be played at more ballgames than either "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" or "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Huh, John, I thought I was following your blog and you weren’t posting, because it always listed the same three posts if you liked or commented on my stuff! Not sure how that happened! Thought you had no new posts. I missed opening day in Detroit yesterday, but we will watch tomorrow and Sunday! Aren’t you in Georgia? They pulled the Allstar game? I might have that wrong. Huh.

Really? I post several times a day. I see you got signed up, so I’ll soon be spamming your inbox…
As for the All-Star Game, that’s what I heard. I don’t care, personally. The All-Star Game really means nothing now,. just an excuse for ESPN to pretend that they care about baseball.

I worked Fogarty when this was song was hot. The ‘guitar’ he used to sing the song was shaped like a baseball bat.

Every time I’ve seen him play this, he’s using the “bat” guitar. It’s almost a trademark with him…

Excuse me, Mr Holton. Since I haven’t worked Fogarty since, I did not know that bat was a trademark. I just thought I would add something to the post where it says comments. I promise I won’t do it again.

Don, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make it sound like a putdown. I was just remarking that every time I’ve seen him play the song (which has always been in videos; maybe I’m seeing the same video all the time), he’s used the bat guitar. Whether it’s a trademark or not is just my interpretation. Anyway, I’m sorry, and your comments are always appreciated.

Put me in coach… I don’t care about wins and losses on opening day… it’s great to have it back.

Won-loss records are pretty meaningless until Memorial Day. And yes, it’s great to have it back, despite the Braves and the White Sox losing yesterday….

The Dodgers started in all places…Colorado…they lost. I hate that place.

It’d be nice if no one ever had to play there.
