Song of the Day: Little Richard, “The Girl Can’t Help It”

Actress and model Jayne Mansfield would be 88 today. She starred in the 1956 movie The Girl Can’t Help It! with Tom Ewell and Edmond O’Brien. Little Richard appears in the movie as a nightclub performer and also sang the theme song, which was written by Bobby Troup, whose wife, Julie London, also appears in the movie. The record reached #7 on the R&B chart and #9 in the UK, but only reached #49 on the Pop chart.

  1. I like that movie…it wasn’t long ago that I watched it yet again. Mansfield was something else…of course I love the song.

  2. So cool. . Same guy as Seven Year Itch! Marlyn Monroe I think on that one. Tom Ewell. He also was in that Kathryn Hepbun/Spencer Tracy movie –Adam’s Rib, one of my favorites ever. Very very fun.
