Song of the Day: Carol Burnett, “I Made A Fool Of Myself Over John Foster Dulles”

A very happy 88th birthday to actress and comedienne Carol Burnett. She’s still active, making occasional guest appearances on current TV shows and promos for MeTV in the US, where her show, Carol Burnett And Friends, airs weeknights at 11 PM Eastern Time. This performance of "I Made A Fool Of Myself Over John Foster Dulles" was taken from an episode of The Ed Sullivan Show.

    1. They were very close. Lucy would send Carol flowers on her birthday, and the last bouquet arrived shortly after Lucy died (which was on Carol’s birthday). I don’t remember if Carol heard about Lucy before she got the flowers, but that’s what happened.

  1. She is priceless! She is right on her toes today just like Betty White, although Betty has not been seen much lately but she is 99. I loved her show and have many of her episodes thanks to my mom.

    1. It was the perfect variety show. It had a tremendous cast with Harvey Korman, Vicky Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner and, later, Tim Conway, and they worked so well together. It says a lot for her that, even if it was her show, she wasn’t in every sketch. She knew when it was time to let Harvey or Tim take the ball, and the “Mama’s Family” sketches gave Vicky the spotlight.
