The Post-A to Z Week That Was

This edition of The Week That Was is sponsored by Jax beer. The difference is clear!

The 2021 A to Z Challenge is now finished and I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief. It’s the most fun I have in the blogging year, but at the same time the most tired I get at the end of the day. We’ll talk more about it in my Reflections post.

Don’t forget to do the after survey, because you’ll get the completion badge when you finish the survey. It’s a short survey that won’t take you long to complete, and will help us make the Challenge even more fun and informative next year. While you aren’t required to do a Reflections post, most people do, and we learn a lot from reading those, too. And, don’t forget the Road Trip, which starts May 10 (actually, whenever you want to start), where you can read all the blogs you can between now and next year’s challenge.

Okay, enough about all that. Let’s get into the summary for last week.

This week’s questions: whether I’d give up love or money, assuming I had to give up one; whether I believe a person should do one thing that "scares" them each day; what the last thing I do every night before going to sleep; and what sort of mythical creature I’d like to have. On the last one, I was surprised to learn that I was the only person who chose a dragon…

Found a very funny comment on a YouTube video about the Top 20 inventions that changed music. Which, by the way, is a very good video, if you have 20 minutes to spare.

I went all stream of consciousness on this week’s prompt, which was to write a post inspired by the word "twelve." Spent a lot of time talking about booze…

Talked about being chosen in first grade to crown the Virgin Mary in an impromptu celebration of her as Queen of the May, as well as my less-than-cordial relationship with my first-grade teacher, which actually got better after school let out.

Now that the A to Z Challenge is done, I’ll resume several of my blog features that were put on hold, to wit Monday’s Music Moves Me, Top Ten Tuesday, Simply Six Minutes, and Five for Friday. Tomorrow, I’m going to make up for the fact that I blew off a couple of MMMM themes and do them tomorrow. Incidentally, I’m the guest conductor for MMMM for the month of May. For Top Ten Tuesday, I think, rather than building a Top Ten list based on a historical chart from one of the national or international radio stations, I’ll try my hand at building my own lists, so that I’ll deserve the praise instead of the record buyers and song requestors of whatever town providing the survey. On Friday, I’m going to move on from the "one guy, multiple acts" theme I’ve been using and choose another theme. I have an idea of what I’d like to do, but want to confer with a couple of other people. Everything else that wasn’t on hiatus will be back as well. Be sure and tune in!

  1. Congratulations on another A-Z challenge. I’ve spent the week running around in real life and working on my WIP, so I’ve had very little time to browse blogs. I see I missed a few interesting questions! Money, I’d give up money over love any day of the week!

    1. I think that the older you get, the more sure you are that love beats money hands down. Maybe when I was sixteen I would have wanted money over love, but that’s another story…

  2. Hi John – thanks for all the great posts you’ve given us … mostly reminding me of songs I’ve forgotten or not heard for years. I bet you’re tired – but so appreciate the work you put in … all the best for recovery for a while – cheers Hilary
