Song of the Day: Spirit, “I Got A Line On You”

Ed Cassidy, drummer for the band Spirit, was born on this date in 1923. In addition to founding Spirit with his stepson Randy California, he also founded the band Rising Sons with Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder, and worked with West Coast jazzmen Art Pepper, Cannonball Adderley, Roland Kirk, Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan. "I Got A Line On You" was their biggest single, peaking at #25 in the US and #28 in Canada in 1968. It was on their second studio album, 1968’s The Family That Plays Together.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! I can see how you might not have heard it. A lot of times it was the station you listened to, or the era, or something else. I’m pretty much lost after about 1995…

  1. Spirit was a great group that didn’t get the recognition they deserved. One of the best groups of their era in my opinion. This song is among my favorites by them.

      1. That makes a lot of sense… I never thought about that but yes…I would have thought the FM numbers would be higher.
