Song of the Day: John Fred & His Playboy Band, “Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)”

Today would be singer John Fred’s 80th birthday (he died in 2005). From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, John and band member Andrew Bernard wrote "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)," the title of which was a parody of The Beatles’ "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" from Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. It topped the Hot 100 in January 1968 for two weeks.

      1. Someone said…I forgot who…about old music. If it still makes you move…it’s relevant.

  1. I really enjoyed this song when it came out. It got a lot of airplay on Knoxville TN stations. A bit of a hokey relic from that era, but it’s still fun to hear.

  2. One of my favourite albums as a kid in the 80s was a 1960s compilation, and this song was on it. I loved it. My friends thought I was weird, which made it even better. I didn’t know it was a parody either.
