Happy heavenly birthday to country music legend Eddy Arnold, who would be 103 today. When his record sales started slumping in the early ’60’s because of the popularity of rock & roll, he took a cue from Jim Reeves and sought out a bigger audience by recording country music with strings and orchestral arrangements, which later became known as the "Nashville Sound." "Make The World Go Away," with Arnold accompanied by Floyd Cramer on piano and The Anita Kerr Singers, became a #1 hit on both the Country and Adult Contemporary charts in 1965.

We saw a play a few years ago based on the life of Patsy Cline, and the woman playing her had her down cold. You’s swear Patsy herself was doing the singing. Of course, Patsy had an incredible voice, the result of a bout with scarlet fever when she was younger. Talk about your blessing in disguise…

Eddy Arnold was a favorite of my mother’s. I always think of “Cattle Call” when his name comes up.
