Just learned this from WordPress support: If you want to be able to delete spam and trash comments in one fell swoop instead of one page at a time, you can get the wp-admin pages back by going here and flipping the switch that says "Show wp-admin pages if available."

Unfortunately, it doesn’t give you back the old wp-admin editor…
