Song of the Day: Dionne Warwick, “I Say A Little Prayer”

Lyricist Hal David, who wrote several hundred songs with composer Burt Bacharach, would be 100 years old today (he died in 2012). He’s a member of the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, has earned several honorary degrees and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Dionne Warwick’s version of "I Say A Little Prayer" reached #4 on the Hot 100 in December 1967 and was certified Gold in January 1968.

  1. Hi John – certainly a song we need for today … beautifully sung by the ladies, but I was pleased to listen to Dionne’s. Thanks – Hilary

  2. This was such a famous song and I only know of Dionne doing this. I don’t know Aretha’s version. She and Burt were very close and she was his muse I think. I always thought he was younger to be honest. God..if Judy Garland lived, she would be 99!

  3. I love listening to Dionne Warwick, she has such a large, pleasant catalog of songs, though they are mostly covers. I thought “That’s What Friends are for” was her finest hour.
