Song of the Day: Kenny G, “Silhouette”

Happy 65th birthday to smooth jazz saxophonist Kenny G. "Silhouette" is the title track from his 1988 album. It reached #2 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #13 on th Hot 100.

  1. I really wasn’t familiar with him. They mentioned him in La La Land in sort of an “elevator” music disparaging comment. I liked the jazz in that movie and older jazz, though I tend to lean toward blues more. I used to go to jazz bands when I lived in California for three years and it’s definitely a lot more interesting in those clubs live. For same reason I’m not a disco fan — no soul. So it was interesting to hear what they were referring to. I am not sure he’d pull me in even though he’s clearly an excellent musician.


    1. A lot of the cuts they don’t play on the radio seem more interesting than what gets played to death. He does have a tendency to find a lick and play it over and over…
