Song of the Day: Jim Nabors, “The Impossible Dream”

Singer and actor Jim Nabors would be 91 today (he died in 2017). Best known for playing Gomer Pyle in The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, USMC, he had been living in Honolulu at the time of his death. Carol Burnett would have him on the first show of her variety show each season and considered him her "good luck charm." This performance of "The Impossible Dream" happened on Gomer Pyle, Season 4, Episode 9.

  1. One of my all time favourite songs and one I choose to believe in. He has one amazing voice and when I first heard he was going to sing(probably on Carol Burnett), I was cringing but then he started to sing. I was looking so hard to see if he was dubbed but realized he wasn’t and I was gob-smacked!

    1. I’ve heard him talk in other situations, and the drawl wasn’t as heavy and the voice not so high-pitched. Even so, it was always a shock to hear him go from the speaking voice to the singing one.
