Singer and actor Jim Nabors would be 91 today (he died in 2017). Best known for playing Gomer Pyle in The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, USMC, he had been living in Honolulu at the time of his death. Carol Burnett would have him on the first show of her variety show each season and considered him her "good luck charm." This performance of "The Impossible Dream" happened on Gomer Pyle, Season 4, Episode 9.
One of my all time favourite songs and one I choose to believe in. He has one amazing voice and when I first heard he was going to sing(probably on Carol Burnett), I was cringing but then he started to sing. I was looking so hard to see if he was dubbed but realized he wasn’t and I was gob-smacked!

His Gomer Pyle voice was a lot different from his normal voice. He really hillbillied it up for Gomer.

It was always such a surprise to hear him sing after listening to his speaking voice on the show.

He exaggerated the drawl for TV, so it was even more of a shock.

An amazing performance. The singing voice that didn’t match the speaking voice.

I’ve heard him talk in other situations, and the drawl wasn’t as heavy and the voice not so high-pitched. Even so, it was always a shock to hear him go from the speaking voice to the singing one.
