Lyricist Sammy Cahn, who wrote songs with Jule Styne and Jimmy Van Heusen for singers Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Doris Day and others, was born on this day in 1913. He and Van heusen wrote the music for many of the Rat Pack movies, including Ocean’s 11, from which "Ain’t That A Kick In The Head" is taken. Dean Martin recorded it in 1960 and released it before the movie. The song failed to chart, but it was one of Dean’s most familiar songs.
I am shocked that this did not chart because it’s such a classic.

I was surprised, but then there were so many good songs coming around that time, it might have just slipped trough the cracks.

Funny it never charted. I’d’ve thought that would be one of his bigger hits.

Well, ain’t that a hole in the boat! Haven’t heard this in years. Suddenly I’m ready for a martini, wonder why?

His original stage name as I recall was Dino Martini. Maybe?

I grew up with my mom listening to Dean and his buddies. I like the nostalgia.

They were real entertainers of the type we’re not likely to see again…
