Song of the Day: Lena Horne, “One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)”

Actress, dancer, Grammy Award-winning chanteuse, and civil rights activist Lena Horne was born on this day in 1917. Her career spanned 70 years, beginning when she became a dancer at The Cotton Club when she was 16. "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)" was written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer for the 1943 movie musical The Sky’s The Limit where it was performed by Fred Astaire. Ms. Horne’s 1945 recording reached #21 in the US.

    1. I used to see her on TV a lot during the ’60’s and ’70’s. She’d do a lot of the variety shows, especially Dean Martin’s. Absolutely gorgeous.
