Song of the Day: Willie Dixon & Sunnyland Slim, “Blues Jam”

Poet laureate of the blues, author of countless songs for just about everyone who had anything to do with the blues, singer and bass player extraordinaire Willie Dixon was born on this day in 1915. Willie played bass with Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and others. In the 1960’s, as blues bands started replacing bassists that played the standup bass with ones that played electric bass, Willie stopped playing rather than move to electric. A shame, too, as this jam between him and pianist Sunnyland Slim will show.
