Song of the Day: The Staples Singers, “I’ll Take You There”

Gospel and soul singer Mavis Staples was born on this day in 1939. With her father, Roebuck ("Pops") and siblings Cleotha, Yvonne, and Pervis, she formed The Staples Singers, known first as "God’s Greatest Hitmakers," then in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s they crossed over into pop and soul. They hit the Top 40 eight times and reached #1 twice, the first time with "I’ll Take You There" in 1972.
