Song of the Day: Ray Charles, “You Don’t Know Me”

Country singer and songwriter Cindy Walker was born on this day in 1918. Over her career, she wrote songs for Bing Crosby, Bob Wills, Hank Snow, Ernest Tubb, and Eddy Arnold, among others. Based on an idea and story given to her by Eddy Arnold, she wrote "You Don’t Know Me" for him, which he released in 1956. The best-selling version of the song was recorded by Ray Charles in 1962, on his #1 album Modern Sounds In Country and Western Music. He took "You Don’t Know Me" to #2 on the Hot 100 in 1962.

  1. When I read the title of the blog “You Don’t Know Me” my mind went straightaway to the movie “First Wives Club”. Even when I tried to listen to Ray Charles sing his my brain kept humming the movie song.
