Latin, classical, and bossa nova guitarist Laurindo Almeida was born on this day in 1917. He and saxophonist Bud Shank were pioneers in the development of bossa nova music as members of the L. A. 4. In this performance from 1964, he plays Antonio Carlos Jobim’s "One Note Samba" with the Modern Jazz Quartet: Milt Jackson, vibraphone; John Lewis, piano; Percy Heath, bass; and Connie Kay, drums.
