The story goes Bill wasn’t all that happy with Elvis’s “Blue Moon Of Kentucky’- until the royalty checks started coming in– then when he saw Elvis he told him he could do any of his songs that he would like. Smart man. … My dad’s favorite recording artist- Bill Monroe.

Now when I hear this I think of John Candy and Steve Martin at the end of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

I have bad memories of “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.” Not so much of the movie itself, but of the circumstances that we saw it. We saw it at Mom’s house with my brother and stepfather. They had seen it about 3,000 times before we did, and the three of them started telling me what was going to happen about one or two beats before it happened. As a result, a movie I would have and should have enjoyed put me in a foul mood…

Oh I hate when that happens. A few movies have been ruined for me like that. Candy was great in that movie. Not what he says but how he says it.

He was a funny man. I loved him in “Uncle Buck.” He really had the “guy from Chicago” down. My old high school, New Trier West, was featured in that.

It’s not a song I would love to listen to over and over but I have a fondness for it because it is in the film, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”

Bill had this high-pitched voice that was hard to listen to for any length of time, but this is a great song.
