
Country singer and fiddler Roy Acuff was born on this day in 1903. Often referred to as the "King of Country Music," he’s responsible for moving country music away from the string band, "hoedown" format toward a format that featured the singer more. Fred Rose, with whom Acuff joined to form Acuff-Rose Music, the first Nashville-based country music publisher, wrote "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain," of which Acuff was the first person to record; however, Columbia Records didn’t issue the record until 1947, allowing Elton Britt to release his version in 1946.
This is a new one for me…I’ve heard the song of course but never this version….
