Saxophonist and composer John Coltrane was born on this day in 1926. He started his career playing bebop and hard bop jazz before pioneering modal jazz and free jazz. "Giant Steps" is the title track from his 1960 album, his first for Atlantic records. It features a complex cyclic chord pattern which has come to be known as the "Coltrane changes." Adam Neely has done a fascinating, if technical, analysis of the song. I will warn you, there’s lots of math involved…
A great sax player! I enjoyed listening to this.

Coltrane was one of the great sax players and the song is a standard that’s technically quite difficult to play. Glad you liked it!
