It’s hard to imagine John Lennon as an 81-year-old man, but that’s what he’d be today had he not been murdered in 1980. I chose my favorite song by him, "#9 Dream," from his 1974 album Walls And Bridges. May Pang, his mistress in the mid-to-late ’70’s, said "This was one of John’s favorite songs, because it literally came to him in a dream. He woke up and wrote down those words along with the melody. He had no idea what it meant, but he thought it sounded beautiful." And while John later said it was a "throwaway," he considered it a favorite. As a single, it (appropriately) reached #9 on the Hot 100 in late 1974 and early 1975.
