Song of the Day: Procol Harum, “Conquistador”

Lyricist Keith Reid, who collaborated with Gary Brooker to write most of the songs for the progressive rock band Procol Harum, was born on this day in 1946. "Conquistador" was a song from the band’s 1967 debut album and the lead single from their 1972 live album, Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. It reached #16 on the Hot 100, #22 in the UK, #7 in Canada and #4in Australia.

    1. This was one of the better records of that period of time. Around that time, they were on the King Biscuit Flower Hour (a radio concert that ran Sunday nights) and they did the non-orchestral versions of their songs. They were really good, but the orchestra added a lot.
