Songwriter Ellie Greenwich, who along with composer Jeff Barry wrote hit songs for The Ronettes, The Crystals, The Shangri-Las, The Dixie Cups, and many others, was born on this day in 1940. One song they wrote together was "Hanky Panky," which was a hit for Tommy James & The Shondells in 1966. Originally done by The Raindrops in 1963, James’s cover reached #1 in both the US and Canada.
