Simply 6 Minutes: Happy Birthday, Doggie!

One of the reasons people like dogs so much is that you can dress them up as above and they let you get away with it. One of the bloigs I follow is the Hailey And Zaphod Chronicles, and she’s always dressing the dogs up. She also has the dogs "write" posts for it.

One time, just for fun, I put my glasses on a dog. We all had a good laugh about it until he took off wearing my glasses. I’ve never done that since.

People think that, just because we’ve always had cats, that we don’t like dogs. Nothing could be further from the truth. We just know how much work dogs can be, especially on winter mornings when the dog wanders all over the neighborhood having a gay old time while I’m standing there with a flashlight freezing my backside off. I did that once when my father-in-law was in the hospital and my mother-in-law sprained her ankle. The dog would want to go out at 5 AM…

I guess I owed him that, because when I first met him I grabbed his nose and went "HONK!" He didn’t appreciate that much. (It wasn’t so much a "HONK!" as a Charlie Callas sound effect….)

David Brenner once said that dos were more fun than cats because anything a dog can do, you can watch. I sold him a bottle of Dom Perignon once when I was working in the liquor department at Marshall Field’s. He wasn’t anywhere near as funny as he was during his monologues…

  1. Dogs are much more work than cats! You can’t leave them for a weekend with a large bowl of water and a big bowl of food, unless you want your house to be a giant litter box! Sorry it took so long this week to respond, Thanks for participating!

      1. I was talking to an elderly woman down here one day I was walking and she said the reason she took her dog from wherever was the person told her he was pad potty trained. She said this was good because some days she can’t walk so well. Apparently, this little dog just wants to go for walks because she said he will go anywhere in the house except for on the pads. Honestly, dogs like going outdoors, its in their genes.

    1. Supposedly that’s the law here, too, but people can get away with an electronic fence, and there are some people who let their dogs out in the morning and they stay out all day.

  2. I like both but I admit….I’m more of a dog guy….plus we have a fenced in backyard….that helps!

    1. A fenced in yard is required by law if you have a dog where I live, and I have a lot of yard to fence in. I suppose I could set up a dog run, but I don’t foresee us getting a dog at this stage of our lives…

      1. We live in the middle of three acres in the country. The only law we have is a dog has to be on a leash if not in a yard but it’s never enforced.

  3. Oh, I so agree. My dog is old now and reminds me of Granny on Beverly Hillbillies. She wears me out. More than my 4 kids ever did. I love her but after her, just cats.

      1. Agreed! One of my sons is anti-pet and as I get older I’m beginning to see his reasoning. He loves animals, he just doesn’t think he is home enough to care for them properly.
