Singer-songwriter-keyboardist Mac Rebennack, better known as Dr. John, was born on this day in 1941. His music combined blues, pop, jazz, boogie-woogie, funk, and rock and roll, along with a New Orleans feel. He was a session musician as well as a featured peformer. "Right Place, Wrong Time" was his most popular single, reaching the Top 10 in 1973.
I read a lot about him from the Gregg Allman book. Allman said he was exactly what you saw on stage and kept powders and potions with him from New Orleans.

I’ve always liked this one but haven’t heard it in a long time.

It was fun to hear, and for those of us who didn’ t think there was much going on musically at the time, a welcome change…

Great song. Happy Saturday, John. Forgot to ask if you went to the Braves parade 🙂

I’m pretty much housebound at this point, so I didn’t get to see it. The last one I went to was 30 years ago in ’91.

I think it was his only Top 40 hit. His music didn’t have mass appeal…
