Hope I’m not going too highbrow with this one. Music educator Karl Haas, who for many years hosted the syndicated radio program Adventures In Fine Music, was born on this day in 1913. When I was working second shift, I would listen to his show every day. What I liked about it was that he could relate to the listener, whether the person was an erudite individual or a blue-collar knucklehead like me. He started each show with the first minute or so of the 2nd Movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata #8, "Pathetique," which he played live before each show. It’s played here by Vladimir Ashkenazy.

I’m more of a Mozart fan, but I do love this one. My Mum used to play it, so it brings back happy memories.

I love this piece! It is very well known but some pianist play it too fast or too slow but this man is excellent and right on point.

I thought this was a good version of it. It sounded the mostlike I remember how it sounded when Haas played it. Plus, it had the music so I could follow along.

I listened and this indeed sounds like something I’d listen to. In fact, I may have listened in the past. Sounds familiar, but it sounds like a number of classical music shows I’ve listened to over the years.
Thanks for the link. I was actually educated a bit more about the letter listings of classical work. I never knew the specifics of those cataloging systems.

It was an interesting show, even if you didn’t especially like that kind of music. Sometimes he’d step outside the box and cover something like Scottish music, which I really enjoyed and learned a lot about. I had a friend, the director of Music Ministry at church, who couldn’t stand him because she claimed he “oversimplified things.” Yes, it was overly simple if you had a master’s degree in music, like she did…

That’s like Haas’s show. He had a very sonorous voice and told stories of the music. I’m not a classical music fan, but I liked his show, and learned from it.
