Singer, trumpeter, bandleader and actor Louis Prima was born on this day in 1910. He sprecialized in New Orleans jazz, swing, and Jump blues, adding in R&B, rock, boogie-woogie, and Italian music to come up with a unique sound. "Just A Gigolo"/"I Ain’t Got Nobody" is a medley of two songs: "Just A Gigolo" was a 1929 Irving Caesar adaptation of an Austrian song, while "I Ain’t Got Nobody" was a 1915 song by Spencer Woods and Robert A. Graham. Prima did such a good job of flowing from one to the next that many people believe it was one song.
I have heard this man sing this before. I had no idea that the one is from an Austrian folk tune! It’s amazing how songs came to be.
