Ventriloquist and voice actor Paul Winchell was born on this day in 1922. He and his "partner," Jerry Mahoney, were popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s on TV, and he was a voice actor for many cartoon characters, including the "Scrubbing Bubbles" for the commercials and Tigger in the "Winnie The Pooh" animated films. In addition, he was a licensed acupuncturist and designed an artificial heart that might or might not have inspired Dr. Robert Jarvik’s. "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" was first heard in Winnie The Pooh And The Blustery Day.
Wow! Worked out an artificial heart. He certainly was no Knucklehead Smiff.

Before he became a ventriloquist, he studied medicine. Glad he went into ventriloquism, though…
