Jazz piano legend Earl "Fatha" Hines was born on this day in 1903. I had the privilege of seeing him with a bassist and drummer in the early ’70’s at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois (one of the few times I didn’t climb the fence to get in). He recorded "Second Balcony Jump" with his orchestra in 1942.
