Song of the Day: The Seekers, “Georgy Girl”

Double bassist and vocalist Athol Guy, founding member of the Australian group The Seekers, was born on this day in 1940. "Georgy Girl" was their biggest hit in the US, reaching #2 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 singles. It reached #3 in the UK and #1 in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

  2. Damn, 55 years is a long time, but this video grabs that little piece of 1967 and brings it back alive. I remember this sweet song, and haven’t thought about it in that long. But this, and even more, the “History of” video it recommends, showing the participants through the ages, as it were, to almost the present day, awed me with the grandeur and inevitable evanescence of a what it means to be alive for that much time. Bravo, Seekers! Great choice, John!
