#bloganuary: I Like To Write

Today’s Bloganuary prompt: What do you like most about your writing?

I never really gave this a lot of thought. I guess if I look at why I like to write, it’ll give me a better idea. Bear with me…

  • I’m the boss. I decide what to write about, including the world I write about. When writing memoir, I do my best to stick to the facts, but if I don’t remember them the way someone else does, too bad: let whoever objects write their own memoir. When writing fiction, the characters are at my mercy. I once pushed an old Jesuit down a staircase because it fit the story. Sorry, Father. When answering prompts, I do my best to err on the side of humor.
  • It’s fun. I have a great time when I’m writing. If I’m not, I say "screw this noise" and write something else, or check out Reddit or YouTube or something. I might get back to writing that day, I might not.
  • I get to be funny. I like being funny, and I find that the more you try to be funny, the funnier you are.
  • I’m pretty good at it. This from the guy that never got a grade higher than C in English. I like using words and finding new ones to use.

And what I like about my writing is that all of the above show up in it.

That’s my answer, and I’m sticking to it…

  3. I love being the boss! I like mixing personal stories with the facts of something. It’s like our own little newspapers and we are all editors….with a worldwide circulation.
