#bloganuary: Peace and Quiet

Today’s question, from the home office in Troy, Ohio: What does your ideal day look like?

I don’t get out much (in fact, I don’t think I’ve been out of the house since before Thanksgiving sometime), so getting out is a big part of an ideal day. Part of the reason is Covid, of course, but the other part is that I need a lot of help getting from the house into the van. Mary’s a lot of help there, but it wears her out, so I try to keep the number of excursions to a minimium.

An ideal day also includes pizza and/or pie. The technology of frozen pizzas has improved significantly in the last twenty years or so, so we generally cook it at home. Our favorites are the pizzas from Chicago’s Home Run Inn, a little taste of home for Mary and me. Favorite pies include banana cream, coconut cream, and apple.

Occasionally we order pizza from Domino’s: our current favorite is the pan pizza with Italian sausage and extra cheese. If we don’t want pizza, there is a veritable plethora of restaurants in the area, all of which we can order from thanks to Door Dash.

So, that’s my answer. What’s yours?

  1. Love pizza! We haven’t been out since Covid, except to pick up groceries. Didja hear we might get s–w on Sunday? Your posts are not populating to my email so I unfollowed and re-followed you.

    1. I heard about the nasty white stuff possibly making its presence felt this weekend. It might not stay on the ground that long (let’s hope: I have a dentist appointment Thursday), but the forecast says there might be more next weekend…

  2. Not sure about your diet there, John, but sure like your buoyant spirit. We all need to get out more. I hope to get some walks in next week. Not enough writing and way too much caretaking in my day. πŸ™‚ I do like strawberry rubarb pie and pumpkin but I don’t eat them hardly ever and I mostly eat toppings off pizza, though I do miss it. It sat in my stomach like a lead balloon — probably the thing that was most indigestible of my old poor diet. πŸ™‚

  3. You’ve mentioned Door Dash a couple of times. We’ve never used them. What do you tip a Door Dash deliverer?

  4. …the home office in Troy, Ohio? I immediately thought of KitchenAid mixers.

I like the foodie focus of your ideal day. Pizza pies and pie. Nice, very nice.

    1. I went to Troy years ago to visit Hobart, who made scales. Didn’t realize KitchenAid was there, too. Our dishwasher was a KitchenAid, and it bit the dust over a year ago (we’d have replaced it, but Mary likeswashing the dishes by hand, I guess).

      1. I’m not sure what is there anymore, but years ago people talked about going to Troy to visit a corporate store [museum?] that had all of their appliances. Never went though

  5. I like your idea of a day including pizza and pie. πŸ™‚ I definitely don’t go out as much as I use to because of Covid. A regular day sees me using the computer for a variety of things, reading mysteries, sewing quilted pieces, walking for exercise, and in the summer I garden a lot. It’s pretty routine, some might even say boring. πŸ™‚
