Jazz guitar virtuoso Joe Pass was born on this day in 1929. He played with Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and others as well as a bandleader and soloist from 1962 to his death in 1994. In "Jazz Master," recorded sometime in the early ’60’s, he shows that jazz can be played on a solid-body guitar, in this case a Fender Jaguar.
Just astonishing inventiveness and virtuosity. Rick Beato had a recent episode on him; a Pass album was one of his important early influences. Amazng.

I saw the Beato tribute to Joe Pass. He does some really great videos. He did one recently about Chicago’s “Make Me Smile” that gave me a whole new appreciation for it.

Beato is a living giant of the “internet (non-classical) musical scene”, such as it is. He deserves your focus one or more days.
