Country singer and yodeler Slim Whitman was born on this day in 1923. Though he’d been recording and performing for over 30 years, he didn’t achieve widespread fame until 1979, when a TV commercial for his All My Best compilation album started running on TV. "Una Paloma Blanca" never charted, but is one of his more-familiar songs.
Slim has been the butt of many jokes especially in the film, “Martians Attack” where earth is saved because they play Slim Whitman and the Martians’ heads explode. He actually has a nice voice.

He did, didn’t he? His version of “Indian Love Call,” which made the Martians’ heads explode, was Nelson Eddy AND Jeanette MacDonald put together.
