Stage, screen and television actor John Raitt was born on this day in 1917. He introduced the song "Hey There," written by Jerry Ross and Richard Adler, in the Broadway production of The Pajama Game in 1954, and also sang it in the 1957 film, where he starred opposite Doris Day. (And yes, he’s Bonnie Raitt’s father.)
I always loved his voice but, I think, he was more known in the theatre and his daughter.

He was definitely a Broadway star, and though it might not seem fair her fame has eclipsed his. And I’m sure it never bothered him.

Talk about a treat! Bonnie called her father to join her on stage at the U of MN and the two performed together for an hour.

I first heard the two of them together on Dinah Shore’s show in the ’70’s. They’re really good together, so an hour of it must have been fantstic…
