Today’s assignment is "a love song from 1982," and I give you Bertie Higgins’s "Key Largo." Bertie wrote it and took the song to #8 on the Hot 100, where it spent 17 weeks in the Top 40 and was certified Gold. It was Bertie’s only hit.

It’s a shame that he never had another hit. He had a fantastic voice.

The older I get, the better I like it. It’s yacht rock at its finest.

I’ve heard this before, but just a vague memory, so I don’t think it can have been a huge hit in Australia. Easy to listen to, though.

It reached #2 in Australia in ’81-’82, according to the Kent Music Report, which I guess is like Billboard. Maybe they weren’t playing it as much when you were listening…

I don’t actually remember this, but it is vaguely familiar! Good choice.

Thanks! It was real popular here, but I’m not sure it was worldwide.

One I’ve always liked. Maybe a little over-the-top dramatically, but that adds to its charm.
