Bandleader, singer, actor, and TV and film producer Desi Arnaz was born in Santiago de Cuba on this day in 1917. Best known for his marriage to actress and comedienne Lucille Ball, he played opposite his wife in I Love Lucy from 1951 to 1957 and operated Desilu Studios until she bought him out in the early 1960’s. "El Cumbanchero" was written by Rafael Hernandez Marin and recorded by Arnaz in 1946.
I love Lucy and Desi. 🙂

Great song and I always loved his voice. It’s not huge like Mario Lanza but it is appealing and is strong for his style. I am watching all the I Love Lucy shows. Right now they are in California.

Years ago, I had an album called “Babalu Music” that was all songs from the “I Love Lucy” show and a few of his singles. “Weird” Al Yankovic put it together and did a superb job. I don’t know if you can still get it…

It is on Amazon Prime. Free if you have prime. Their daughter, Luci, said it was a good representation of how they really were.
