MMMM: Glenn Miller Songs

Glenn Miller (source:Wikipedia, Public Domain)

This month’s guest conductor is Marie (aka Xmas Dolly), the real conductor of this crazy train we call Monday’s Music Moves Me. She wanted to hear some Glenn Miller songs. To be unique (which, as everybody knows, is something I like to do), I decided to take the approach of songs that Miller wrote, whether or not he and his orchestra played them or not. I found a Wikipedia page that had a list of his compositions and built a list of ten of them. Some of these are done by Glenn and his orchestra, others by Glenn as a sideman. That page in Wikipedia tells all.

  1. Jack Teagarden, "I Swung The Election"
  2. Glenn Miller, "Doin’ The Jive"
  3. Glenn Miller, "When Icky Morgan Plays The Organ"
  4. Benny Goodman & His Boys, "Room 1411"
  5. Glenn Miller, "Sold American"
  6. The Dorsey Brothers, "Annie’s Cousin Fanny"
  7. The Dorsey Brothers, "Dese Dem Dose"
  8. Glenn Miller, "Solo Hop"
  9. Glenn Miller, "Community Swing"
  10. Glenn Miller, "Boom Shot"

And that’s Monday’s Music Moves Me for March 7, 2022.

Monday’s Music Moves Me is sponsored by Marie, Cathy, Alana, and Stacy, so be sure and visit them, where you can also find the Linky for the other participants.

  1. You always put a different (and enjoyable) spin (couldn’t help it) on things. I enjoyed each of these – I never realized just how talented Glenn Miller was, whether or not it was his orchestra or not. I wonder how Miller would have fared musically if he had been born today.

  2. John,

Excellent spin with your unique approach to this week’s theme as always, my friend. You’re gonna get a kick out of what I have in store in a couple of weeks. Let’s just say, we were thinking a like with this post except I put mine off. :) Now to settle in to enjoy your playlist while I work on my A2Z sketches. Thanks for hitting the dance floor this week with the 4M crew. Have a boogietastic week!

  3. How can one not love the big band era. I heard a little bit of Looney Tunes in one of them and my mind went to It’s A Wonderful Life because some of this music seemed to be in the film.
