E. M.’s Sunday Ramble #15: Kitchen and Food

E.M. has assigned us questions about "kitchen and food" today. And I thought last week’s questions were rough… I’ll explain that shortly…

  1. When you are in the kitchen cooking (or cleaning), do you have anything playing in the background (i.e.,TV, music, Julia Child, etc.) while you are completing your tasks? If you are not someone who cooks or does chores in your kitchen, think of another chore or task. While you are doing that task, do you have anything going on in the background? Since my stroke and a few setbacks since, I don’t even go to the kitchen anymore. When I’m doing just about anything, I like to have music or some form of noise playing. Given the amount of music I write about, that’s usually playing in the background.

  2. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten that someone cooked for you? Evidently, my grandmother Walkie (Mom’s mother) threw together some God-awful concoction consisting of spaghetti noodles, canned tomatoes, and Velveeta cheese for dinner when they were all younger. In a fit of nostalgia, my mother invited her siblings to our house one Friday night and made this for them. (My Uncle Jack politely turned down his invitation, teling her that he thought the concoction was horrible.) Naturally, we also were served said concoction and refused to eat it, and Mom had to call her brother and tell him he was right.

  3. Thinking of that weird food, did you like it enough to eat it again or get the recipe? Oh, God no…

  4. What’s the food you usually refuse to share? Dessert.

  5. Do you use recipes when you cook, or do you have your own way of cooking the food that you love? If you are not the person who cooks in your household, pick a task that has directions/instructions. Do you follow the directions or put them to the side? I live by the creed "RTFD," which stands for "read the f—ing directions." Mary’s the adventurous soul in our house…

  6. Bonus: Pick three smells in your kitchen that make you happy when you smell them. Cake or bread baking, bacon cooking, and Angry Orange, the floor cleaner Mary uses..

Those are my answers, and I’m sticking to them.

Tally-ho and away we go!
See you next week with a brand new show!

  1. Hi John 🙂 I always enjoy reading your answers to the questions. I am a nerd on personalities 😀 You have a great one. RTFD is great! I had to write that one down, and the gross concoction reminds me of clogged arteries lol. Thanks for rambling with me again this week, and Angry Orange smells amazing!

  2. I’ll use a recipe the first time I make something. After that, I’m usually playing with the recipe so don’t bother to follow.

  3. Our grandmother made cornmeal mush for breakfast. It was gross. Cornmeal dropped into boiling water. It was indeed mush. 😳
