British chanteuse Dame Vera Lynn was born on this day in 1917. Her records were particularly popular during the Second World War in the UK and the US, and she remained active until her death two years ago. Her album Vera Lynn 100, released in 2017, reached #3 on the album charts, making her the first centenarian to do so. "We’ll Meet Again" was one such WWII hit, released in 1943. It was used as the last song in the 1964 movie Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

How I love Vera Lynn who had a good long life and a hit maker to the very end. I love this song. It would be cool to play some war songs from the 40s that became huge hits. White Christmas was one. Sentimental Journey is another.
