Trumpeter, singer, bandleader, and record company executive Herb Alpert was born on this day in 1935. He led the Tijuana Brass through the 1960’s and part of the 1970’s, recording a number of albums with them. He and Jerry Moss founded A&M Records and signed, among others, Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66, whose lead singer, Lani Hall, Alpert married in 1973. "A Taste Of Honey" was released on his 1965 album Whipped Cream And Other Delights, and reached #7 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This is a performance from The Ed Sullivan Show on November 7, 1965.
This was so nice to listen to and it makes me want to buy one of his CDs.

All his greatest hits with the TJB are on an album called, oddly enough, Greatest Hits that came out in 1970. That’s where I’d start.

My big brother had all his LPs and played them all the time, so I pretty much have them memorized. 🙂

Love this song and the album. I played it so much I feared I would wear the grooves down.

I know what that’s like. I think I played the grooves right off the record…
